EXPERIMENT TWO: THE SPACE BETWEEN

EXPERIMENT TWO: THE SPACE BETWEEN

WEEK 1: THE 6 PAIRS OF AXONOMETRICS

"CREATE DYNAMIC BETWEEN THE BUILDING AND ITS NATURAL SURROUNDING."- ALVAR AALTO
"FREGMENTATION USED TO REDUCE IMPACT-DIVE BUILDING TO SMALLER PIECES AND ARRANGE THEM SO BUILDING CANNOT BE SEEN AS A WHOLE FROM ANY POINT OF VIEW."- REM KOOLHAAS
"REVOLUTIONISED THE WAY ARCHITECTS LOOK AT PROGRAM AND INTERACTION WITH SPACE."- REM KOOLHAAS
"THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF ARCHITECT IS TO CREATE A PARADISE."- ALVAR AALTO

"NOTHING IS AS DANGEROUS IN ARCHITECTURE AS DEALING WITH SEPERATE  PROBLEMS. IF WE SPREAD LIFE INTO SEPERATE PROBLEMS, WE SPREAD THE POSSIBILITIE S TO MAKE GOOD BUILDING ART."- ALVAR AALTO
"CELEBRATES THE CHANCE LIKE NATURE OF CITY LIFE: ' THE CITY IS AN ADDICTIVE MACHINE FROM WHICH THERE IS NO ESCAPE."- REM KOOLHAAS

WEEK 2: THE 3 PARALLEL PROJECTIONS

WEEK 3: THE 36 TEXTURES

FINAL CONCEPTS USED

CONCEPT ONE: "CREATE DYNAMIC BETWEEN THE BUILDING AND ITS NATURAL SURROUNDING."- ALVAR AALTO

This overhang design gives a sense of "dynamic" especially after it is being converted to curvilinear.
Also, it is proposed to be the roof of the railway stop because it has a good connection with the natural surrounding.

CONCEPT TWO: "FREGMENTATION USED TO REDUCE IMPACT-DIVE BUILDING TO SMALLER PIECES AND ARRANGE THEM SO BUILDING CANNOT BE SEEN AS A WHOLE FROM ANY POINT OF VIEW."- REM KOOLHAAS

I realised Koolhaas's concept by creating seperate pieces of prisms and play around with the forms so that they will not look like a whole block sitting on the site. This design is more likely to be the urban context because the seperate pieces can easily represent the supporting structures.

THE COMBINED CONCEPT OF ONE AND TWO

THEME: SUSTAINABILITY
  • Over hangs and seperate pieces not only are related to the two concepts yet sustainable by reducing the use of materials.
  • Sustainable lightweight materials such as timber supporting structures are used.
  • By allowing the station to be above the ground in order to avoid impact on the existing environment - busy Anzac Parade is sustainable.
  • Green plants are placed on the side facing the main road shows sustainability because they do help in minimizing the amount of Carbon dioxide inhale by the people sitting on the bench.

This view is facing the Anzac Parade.
This view is facing the UNSW campus.
This image shows the relationship between the roof, platforms, supporting structures and stairs.
This image shows the connection between the curving roof and platforms.
Night view.

This is how it looks like in the railway stop at night.

Glass is one of the materials used on the stairs.

THE 3 TEXTURES USED

Light texture is applied on the curving surfaces.
Medium texture is applied on the stairs.
Dark texture is applied on the platform where people stand and wait for the tramp.
